This research analyses 160 time schedules from several countries. The time schedules document the results of project planning and describe the construction process. The results of the industry survey document the common practice and display the results of project planning. For building information models (BIM) that are beyond the level of detail and developments currently used, this research proposes a complementary level of development for the project planning of the construction process. The new developed construction project-planning approach, based on BIM, proposes an object-oriented and model-based framework. The essentials of the framework are the developed smart objects for the construction process. Several studies have evaluated the capabilities of the developed framework.
